Places to Remember

Mathew Street can be found half way between Lime Street Station and the river, at the heart of our city.
Still home to The Cavern Club, the street now has many Beatle themed pubs to visit. The Abbey Road, John Lennon Bar, and Cavern Pub in particular. Perhaps a less well known Beatle connected pub is The Grapes, very near to our shop. This was a local favourite of the fab foursome and now features a great photo of the band sat in the pub, the frame itself hung under the spot the picture was originally taken!

High up on the wall opposite the Cavern Walks shopping centre, a 1974 statue by Arthur Dooley can be seen. The children at the feet if this 'Lady' Madonna are small dolls of the band, but Paul's figure is strangely missing and the words 'Paul has taken wings and flown' are now in his place. A verse from Imagine and a passage from the Bible were added next to John's figure after he died.

At the foot of Mathew Street lies Stanley Street, and here the Elenor Rigby Bench can be found. The statue, which has made by early Rock 'n' Roller Tommy Steele sits alone on a marble bench. Alone that is accept for the sculptured sparrow sitting there also, and the flowers that people frequently leave by her side.
